Registry Hacks
Well, since I'm always messing around with regedit, the omnipotent windows configuration utility, I thought I'd share some of my favorite hacks. All of them are useful, but some are useful in a destructive and vengeful sort of way. I make all of these in WinXP Pro, so if you have a different version there's a possibility you are wasting your time.
*NOTE* I'm currently working on a way to open .reg files on the school computers. I'll post something if I figure it out.
When you go to System in the control panel, and it tell you some company name that you made up when you installed Windows years ago, don't you hate that? Well think those suicidal thoughts no longer. Just edit this file with the name and company you want to be associated with, and step back from the ledge. It's going to be okay.
NameCompany.reg
I got fed up with having to click through my start menu to start my palm pilot's hotsync service, so I searched around the registry and found out where are kept the aliases that windows uses when you type things into the Run dialog. Edit this file and you will be able to type a word in Run and open whatever program you want.
Run.reg
When the computer boots up, this tells it to shut down.
You can fix it by booting into safe mode and removing the string, or just laugh diabolically for several hours.
Revenge.reg
The newest version of revenge.reg! In this version, instead of an impersonal and confusing shutdown, the victim gets 5 seconds to read the message "Don't fuck with computer nerds. They always win."
It gets the message across a lot more clearly, in case you want them to know that it was revenge, and not just a screwed up computer.
You can use the same method to remove it.
Payback.reg
Here's one that's funnier than it is damaging. It changed the Internet Explorer homepage to
badgerbadgerbadger.com.
Oh, and make sure you turn up their volume all the way too.
Badgers.reg
Fascist school administration got you down? If they use a proxy to filter your internet and have Internet Options disabled, Use this to remove the proxy so you have a straight shot at the internet.
Proxy.reg
Note: Since CHS has changed their filtering technique, it no longer works there. If you go to some other school, it will probably work still.
